Lucca and Pisa

Yesterday we hitched a bus to Pisa and Lucca. We were initially kinda bummed to hear that we were going to Pisa since we had already spent the money to get there two weeks ago, but it turned out for the best because the first time we were there we climbed the Leaning Tower and with our ticket to that we got free entry to the Cathedral. This time around we got to do into all the other monuments that we didn't do last time. So we got into the baptistery, cathedral, and cemetery. The cathedral was neat to see again just with our professor because we got all the facts behind elements inside. The baptistery was pretty cool, it was two levels and a women came in and sang so we could see how sound travels throughout the space. But the cemetery was probably my favorite part. It caught on fire years back so we got to see how that are trying to reserve and restore paintings there. So we officially saw all there is to see in Pisa.

We had a 4 course lunch that was provided for us! Our first course was bruschetta, another toasted piece of bread with a meat spread on it, and a corn bread like thing with mushrooms on top! Second course was two types of pasta. The first kind I have NO idea what it was, but it had a type of meat in it and was an oil type of sauce, the second one was a spicy tomato sauce over bowtie pasta! The third course was a piece of chicken and sausage both where good and by far the best course we had, then we even got some tiramisu for dessert! They were all pretty good, but what made it hard is that the waiters didn't speak any english, so they weren't able to tell us what we were eating. SO to our surprise turns out the second spread like thing had liver in it, so we were disturbed after we figured that out an hour after we finished eating! But on the positive side of that, it was a pretty cool experience not knowing what was being put on our plate because it definitely made me try new things, and some of the of the items I would've never ordered if I looked at them on a menu. And I liked everything to an extent.

Our day ended in Lucca. Within 5 minutes of being there Lucca felt it could be home. It was opposite of Florence. It had trees and grass and things you don't see when you live in the city! We climbed to the top of a tower, and saw a cathedral. Ill let you look at pictures rather than me explain it!

This was a fun trip, I defnitely wish we spent more time in Lucca because the few hours there just flew by, but I enjoyed every second of it. Since this was our first school trip we got to meet the group of people we go on our next trips with to Rome and Venice. We made some great new friends and it made me excited to spend these upcoming weekends with them!
