Free State Museum Day!

The first Sunday of every month we were told that all of the state museums are free... Well it turns out MOST of the state museums were free. Anything that wouldn't allow free access just closed instead. So we quickly hit unlucky when the first museum we attempted was closed, but we did step next door to see inside the San Marco Chapel, which had a service going on. It was a beautiful church, not very crowded but worth the quick 5 minute detour. We decided to check out the Accademia Museum line because we were told its going to be insanely long due to the lack of payment. There was a decently long line, but it seemed like it was moving pretty quick, so we hopped in line and in less than 10 minutes we were inside. Something I didn't know is that Accademia has a part of the museum dedicated to musical instruments. I was pretty intrigued by this section because it had the history of the clarinet... for those of you who don't know that was what I played for 9 years. Then we looped back to the main hall when once you turn the corner you are consumed by the statues leading your eyes straight to David. You don't understand the scale of this statue, its huge! Its the center piece of this entire museum. The museum concluded by a hall filled with sculptures. Hundreds of sculptures filled this hall most of which were busts, but its overwhelming seeing them all line the walls.

Our second museum of the day was The Medici museum and chapel. I don't quite understand the museum portion of this place yet, but each structure encased a bone fragment. It was a bit disturbing but the cases were beautiful all to hold just small bone. When we went upstairs we entered the chapel. The Chapel of the Princes in my option is the most breathtaking thing we saw all day. This baroque style chapel is covered in stone and marble with bronze statues covering the walls.

Our 3rd stop was to the Pitti Palace. This place is HUGE. It is covered wall to wall in paintings and each room contains a chandeliers. There are 3 main parts of the museum open to us today. The palace gallery, the costume gallery, and the modern art gallery. In the palace gallery the main focus was the paintings all over the walls and the occasional sculptures, but i couldn't help but to observe the ceiling of each and every room. The ceilings were beautiful and covered in detail. The modern art museum was the smallest gallery out of the 3 but again it was filled with paintings. My favorite part of this museum was the Costume Gallery. It was filled with funky looking outfits and gowns. But what i found most interesting is I would still wear some of these things today. And I think several things you could even see on a runway nowadays.

Ours 4th and final stop was the Boboli gardens. It is right behind the Pitti Palace but I'm sure if you walk the whole thing it would end up being several miles. With this being our last stop and the entire thing up hill we didn't have the energy to see it all, but we climbed to the top where we saw some unbelievable views of the city.

Overall today was a good day, but nothing is more surprising than walking down the streets of Florence Italy and Morgan Murphy is Standing in front of you! I knew she would be here soon, but what are the changes we just pass each other along the road.
After talking to my father yesterday he told me i needed to organize my blog a little differently and add some pictures! So i took a bit of a new approach today and took his advice adding a lot more pictures than usual! But after visiting 4 museums I also had a lot to show, so enjoy!
