Well I made it! So far I am so happy with how things have gone. Our apartment is beautiful!! Absolutely beautiful! When we open our windows and push the shutters out, it is a picture right out of a movie. Our apartment has 4 keys... one of which looks like it should open the doors to a castle. Everything is perfect besides the fact that our apartment has A/C, BUT we aren't permitted to use it because it makes our bill higher than what the university made a deal on. So our landlord came over today to give us a run down on the place and everything went smoothly until he told us the A/C won't be turned on... Florence is in the middle of a heat wave, so currently its 100 degrees out. We were given 2 fans, but one of them was broken, so we asked where we can go buy electric fans and he recommended IKEA. So we gathered our belongings and headed 20 minutes back towards the airport to IKEA. It was a good trip because I managed to also pick up towels, dish washing appliances, and trash bags, but to our surprise IKEA doesn't sell ONE fan. Not even a nice mini one. So I am sitting her typing this after taking a nice cold shower to try to cool down for a few minutes.....
Well I fell asleep while typing that, but only for about an hour. Around 1 am i woke up and was soooooo hot I was unable to sleep. So from 1-4 I was awake. From 4-6:30 I slept then 7-9:30 so I managed to get some sleep, but that was after I moved to sleep on the couch by the fan. So this morning we were woken up by our landlord coming to check our bathroom. There was a huge ordeal last night with the old Italian woman that lives below us. Whenever the people next door to us took a shower water leaked into the old lady and her husbands room. So when my roommates (Rachel and Anna) and I returned back from dinner we were greeted by this women yelling Italian at us. She proceeded to scream at me to open the door into the small hallway that leads to our two apartments. I must add this is ALL in Italian... she speaks no english so this is after her repeating and gesturing for us to open the door. She then pounds on the door of our neighbors and when we make it into our apartment she come barging in behind us, proceeding to wash her hands over and over again in the bathroom. All I can say is that it ended with her treating to call the police. So the landlord came to inspect everything. We told him about our fan problem and he said he would replace it!
All afternoon we explored the city while having the intentions of finding more fans for our bedrooms. We found several stores that had them, but they were all closed. Today was 100 degrees I must add, so me sleeping tonight depended on finding some fans. After we got lunch we walked back to the stores to see if they were open again. But after no luck we walk back home feeling very defeated when we saw a fan blowing in a store we stopped and asked the man if he had any to purchase and he had three! So we bought them all and i'm currently lying in bed very content with this fan running next to me. To end our night we went on a hike to Piazzale Michelangelo! It was the most beautiful sight of Florence I have ever seen. And finished off the night with some coconut gelato! It was absolutely DELICIOUS! OH MY GOSH but i can't conclude this post without mentioning the Gnocchi I had for lunch today! It was a four cheese sauce and just full of deliciousness!
Well thats all for today!
